While business houses give away gifts on festivals like Diwali [Indian Festival] or Christmas [celebrated by a majority of people], name / logo change, merger / acquisition, they also give gifts as part of their Reward and Recognition Program, launch of a new initiative, or running a quiz contest. This might sound different, however, brings a fun element to the entire idea of earning promotional / corporate gifts.

How does it work? The business houses hosts a list of products on their local intranet / a separate website. The number of points an employee needs to earn for redeeming a particular product is mentioned against that promo item. The items could be meant for individuals or for groups / teams. What next? Employees needs to perform and earn those points for himself and get his hands on his favourite item. Higher targets achieved would fetch higher credit points and thus better product. The employee could also accumulate points to redeem a product of a higher value. The portal is a good way to display a variety of gift items along with its features and attractive display. The Corporates tie up with service provider who will keep adding promotional products / items or gift vouchers to the catalogue. The service provider could further tie up with organizations that are willing to list their product in the catalogue to promote their product or enhance visibility of an existing product. This helps promoting their product in the corporate world and can boost repeat purchases for them.

The business houses not only link it to employee performance but also open the portals for gifts given for contest / quiz winners. An organization which was trying to drive home the concept of “quality and six sigma” launched a focused initiative with some contests and quizzes linked it. The employees loved the idea of online quizzes and winning credit points or executive gifts. The idea was to make employee feel special and choose a gift of his / her choice. The employee felt committed and strived towards getting an answer right or achieving his targets. The organization achieved its objective of making the employees understand the “importance of Quality” by offering gifts through way of quizzes.

This approach is being used at various organizations to build employee morale and keep them motivated. business houses now need not wait for a festive occasion or a name change to give away gifts. They could use promotional gifts as an opportunity to build employee engagement.
