A Baby Shower is a Time For Everybody To Make Merry!

By: Donald Saunders

The birth of any baby is without doubt a thrilling time and a time to celebrate but it is also often an anxious time spent rushing around making sure that you have everything you need and stressing about whether you will be able to cope. Naturally, this is especially true if this is your first baby.

The idea for a baby shower came about as both a time for friends and family to be together prior to the baby's arrival and to help relieve the financial burden on parents-to-be by giving them a lot of the furnishings and accessories which they will need once their baby arrives.

Despite the fact that today the majority of people prefer to break out of tradition when it comes to a baby shower, generally these events still adhere largely to traditional guidelines. Probably one of the most significant changes to the baby shower format is the fact that they are no longer exclusively the preserve of women and plenty of men make it onto today's baby shower guest list and are happy to join in. While they might not take part in all of the baby shower games, men do like the chance to give their regards to the expectant parents.

You should remember though that in certain cultures a baby shower is thought to be a sign of bad luck and so, if there is a possibility that the expectant mother might believe that it is unlucky, then you should be sure to check before organizing a baby shower.

In some parts of the world a baby shower is in fact held after the baby is born while it others it takes place prior to the birth. In a lot of ways it is sensible to have the shower following the birth as a baby shower is a celebration of arrival of the baby and guests enjoy actually seeing the central figure of the celebration. It is also easier to pick gender-appropriate colors and gifts and, should your gift needs engraving, then your guests will have all of the details they require.

Even though holding the baby shower after the baby's birth makes sense it is a very hectic time for parents and a lot of the baby items which the require are required the moment the baby arrives home. This is why holding the baby shower prior to the baby's birth is becoming a more common option.

The baby shower is traditional and for the most part every shower requires a core of basic planning and activities. A guest list will need to be compiled, a location chosen and invitations delivered out. The shower location then has to be decorated and drink, food and games organized. Also, as it is a special occasion, you might also want to consider having a musician or other performer taking part in the festivities and also a photographer to make a record of the event.

A baby shower can easily evolve into a big affair with many things to arrange that are going to cost a lot of money. That is why it is a good idea to put together a budget for the event before you start and then make sure that you keep to it.

Arranging a successful baby shower does not need special talent but it does require a well thought out plan which includes both a budget and a timeline.
