Before you can use any soultion, you sometimes have to make an installation using a software installer. The majority of applications you see nowadays are released as a distributive. Programmers who wish to save time or customer support service costs you may choose to use an open source or commercial install maker. Microsoft has developed the Windows Installer for its Windows platform that helps programmers create installation. IntstallShield and SetupBuilder are 2 more installation software solutions for Microsoft Windows system. Most such programs make packages that offer a consistent experience for users installing different applications. Not happy with commercial setup creator programs? There are also a some nice open source solutions available. Check out Clickteam Install Creater and Innosetup, to name a couple. Many software applications these days are developed for more than one platform.

Programmers usually find the task of making install packages for each of the platforms to be quite difficult. If each setup creator for each platform be it Linux, Windows XP, Mac OS or a different system was developed separately, it would require additional workload,i.e. extra time in development and testing to provide a satisfactory experience to users. Luckily, there are also cross-platform install maker solutions. For instance, InstallAnywhere that is a commercial setup creator, or an open source Java install generator for various systems named IzPack. What has been placed onto your computer once, may have to be uninstalled later. Some years ago some programs could not be uninstalled properly without the help of dedicated third-party solutions. 3rd-party uninstallers are rarely used in such a way these days, as they are sometimes less effective than built-in uninstallers. In spite of everything such 3rd party uninstallers are used nowadays. Many applications have functionalities that are not deleted by the standard uninstall application. Trojan and spyware applications pose one more hazard to your system. Such a soultion does not delete itself voluntarily, so some assistance from a specialized uninstaller might be required.
