Life with Reborn Baby Dolls

By: Tommy Thompson

Many doll enthusiasts have moved away from simple play things to more realistic figures which much more strongly resemble a human infant. These toys and the people that make them are commonly known as "reborn dolls". Professionals who have honed their craft to perfection are now able to reap considerably larger profits from handmade dolls. Any doll auction or showcase will contain a number of prime examples, and they are almost always the first items to go for high prices!

The market for reborn dolls has absolutely exploded in the past five years, thanks to a widespread implementation of art techniques that allow for more realistic-looking dolls. The berenguer and preemie dolls that have sold for years can be credited partially for the craze brought on by reborn dolls, as they began the trend of lifelike qualities and expressions that make them reminiscent of a real human baby.

Often, reborn dolls are created using a specific process that works to strip the doll of its artificial appearance and trappings to create a more realistic looking and feeling model. The process usually starts with the disassembly of the doll and the removal of the paint that was applied at the production facility. This stripping of the paint off leaves a plastic shell that can then be altered as needed.

When you are working to create a reborn doll, you will need to add a purple color to the inside of the head, arms, and legs, so that you can start to achieve a realistic baby skin color. You will then paint the outside of these pieces with several different skin tone paints and colors, adding real skin color, and then to bring the doll a lifelike look, you will use other tones and techniques, creating skin lines, blemishes, and other effects.

Hair and eyelashes made out of real human hair or soft humanlike hair is used to give the reborn dolls lifelike features. Usually this process is done by hand and one strand at a time, this method can take many hours. After that the doll is then put back together with a softer under belly and filling. Sometimes they may add other extras to give the doll more aspects of a human being such as a hearbeat sound box to mimic a heart or breathing.

There is an easier way for making a Reborn Doll with less work than what you really require to put for making your own Reborn Doll. For this ,all you need to do is get the doll collections which are available and you can prepare the doll yourself without the major hassels. These are gaining popularity as many people are readily spending a few hundred dollars for buying these reborn doll collections. They are mainly given as gifts to the mothers of the newborn children as the reborn doll is often made as a replica of their baby after birth, and is a precious as a keepsake.
