Mold contamination and mold infestation can occur in homes, condominiums,
schools, rental apartments, offices, warehouses, retail stores or other real
estate buildings.

Here are
four major steps for mold remediation: Determine and solve the cause of how
moisture is entering the home. Containment of the mold home, mold basement, or
building keeps the mold from spreading into uncontaminated areas. The removal of
the mold or black mold in all infested areas (examples: drywall, studs, or any
building materials) requires a team of professionals using personnel protective
equipment (PPE) and special equipment in the removal of moldy materials. The
last step is the protection of the cleaned out areas against future mold
infestation.

As mold

“Mold is a
major problem for 30% of new homes” - CNN Money.  In addition, there are mold
problems with 75% of homes built in the last 10-15 years.  Causes for such a
high number of mold problems in homes are: construction defects, poor
workmanship, poor lot grading toward home, poorly installed drain tile or no
drain tile, inadequate insulation and ventilation, landscaping mistakes like
using too much mulch, venting inadequacies in kitchen and bathroom and high
indoor humidity of 60% or more.

All mold
growth is a result of water or moisture problems. The first step to mold cleanup
and mold abatement is to determine where moisture is coming from and how it is
getting into the structure.  It is imperative to locate and fix all sources of
mold-causing water intrusion such as water damage/flooding/sewage, leaky window
flashing, poor drainage, blocked roof vents, poor roof venting, leaky roofs or
siding, high humidity in crawl space or attic, and high indoor humidity.
Basement mold is prevalent in most homes, and can be visible to the eye, but
mold is also an invisible intruder, growing behind and around what you visibly
see.  Mold may be hiding in places such as the backside of drywall, wallpaper,
paneling, top side of ceiling tiles, underside of carpet and pads-mushroom
carpet.  Other locations of hidden mold include areas inside walls around pipes,
inside ductwork, and the attic with insufficient insulation or roof leaks. It is
necessary to clean up mold contamination, not just kill the mold. Dead mold
spores are still allergenic and some dead mold spores are still extremely
problematic. For more information visit
