Successful Treatment Of Adhd In Children

By: Michelle Robbins

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) can be very, very difficult for parents to handle - as any parent of an ADHD kid will tell you. It can be really hard to understand your child's problems, which further complicates that situation - because you love your child so much and will do anything to help them. You might be blaming yourself for your kid's problems, wondering if you're feeding your child the "wrong" things, or if you're a bad parent, or even thinking -"that's just the way he/she is" - and thinking that something is very wrong.

A child with behavioral problems may have a condition called Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). If your child has trouble staying on task, is difficult to control, and seems especially active, you may want to have these symptoms checked out by a doctor who may be able to help you understand what is happening with your child.

Genes are usually the reason for ADHD, originating from the parents. If a man has ADHD, and his children exhibit the same symptoms, it would be best to have the child examined. There are two potential ways to explain ADHD. In the first case, studies have demonstrated that brain of people with ADHD is chemically imbalanced and they have problems organizing their thoughts. Since they have less than the normal brain chemistry, they have a hard time with reasoning. In the second case, the activity level of the brain is a factor. Some areas of the brain in children with ADHD are not as active as children that don't have ADHD. These parts of the brain that are not as active make children have a short attention span, limited ability to show emotions, and cause them to act impulsively.

Still, there is hope for children with ADHD and their parents. First, they could have a physician prescribe medication to help manage the symptoms. Or, they could attempt to manage their child's ADHD without any medicine. Parents must make sure their children always get the right amount of sleep, exercise well, and provide them with the proper nutrition. You would be amazed over the difference in behavioral problems that this can make. Diet especially can be used as a way to control Attention deficit disorder. These children can be more sensitive to sugar and processed foods, manufactured dyes, yellow foods, and chocolate. You should also add more fruits and vegetables, decent protein choices, and more mineral supplements. Pair this with natural homeopathic remedies available for ADHD.

Parents have to realize that ADHD often cannot be handled with discipline or with environmental methods, and that's why it's so vital that these children receive the correct diagnosis. Once they are diagnosed, if you turn to the more holistic and more natural herbal remedies, you'll notice long-term improvements in the children's behavior.
