All about Toxic mold

The scientific name of toxic mold is filamentous fungi. It is a type of growth on organic substance. These types of growth are caused by certain types of fungi. Toxic molds increase your chances of getting diseases because it weakens the immune system. Most people get exposed to mold by eating moldy food and through skin contacts. For instance, when asthma people inhale such molds, the asthma attack can get very severe. Studies show that molds are increasing the rate of asthma among people across the world for the past 20 years. However, the quantity of mold required to cause illness, varies from individual to individual.

Chemicals known as mycotoxins are produced by the toxic molds. These mycotoxins can prove to be dangerous to your health though you may not have any allergies. Mold in home cause four major types of diseases - irritation of tissues, infection and toxic affects allergies. When a mold triggers an allergic reaction, asthma can occur as well. The common symptoms however are breathing difficulties and flue. People with immune problems or lung cancer are at a higher risk of getting fever and lung infections. Certain type of molds like Cladosporium and Trihcderma cause severe health problems. Molds in home also cause allergic problems like sneezing, throat irritation, burning or red eyes, nasal congestion and head aches. Molds can also cause skin diseases like yeast infections and athlete’s foot.

Molds emerge from hibernation if there is sufficient moisture on the walls. When molds in home come into contact with wet walls, they stick to it. Then a hypha helps the mold to get nourishment from the wall. Some type of moulds feed on the sulphur grains on concrete, while others feed on metals in the paint. The hypha helps to break down organic materials by excreting enzymes. The spores of the mold can last for up to 35 years before they are hatched. Molds thrive on environments like acid curdled milk, in fruit juices and jams and jellies. Toxic molds can also be found in refrigerators. Mold reproduction happens through spreading of microscopic spores. Mold spores keep moving through the air continuously and when they stick on to damp cloth or organic material; they begin to grow and digest the material. In general, toxic molds live in temperature like 125 degree F. and also survive in temperatures below 60 degrees F to increase allergies and health risks.

Mold health issues have become regular topics in social gatherings, talk shows and in college presentations. The reason behind this is, everyone want to avoid mold diseases and want to know the symptoms of mold exposure; so that mold in their home can be avoided. Only by limiting moisture in your location, you can get to illuminate the mold. In case symptoms of mold appear in your home, you can always approach your family doctor for treatment. See that your house and surroundings are clean, to avoid allergies. Good ventilation of the building you are living in can emit molds as well.

Frequent mold testing of your home is a good idea to avoid mold diseases allergies and health risks. The more you do it, the more safe you are.
